Shorea robusta resin, also known as sal resin, salai guggal or Indian dammar, is a natural resin obtained from the tree species Shorea robusta, commonly known as the sal tree. This resin and wood have been used for a myriad of various purposes for centuries. Sal resin is a traditional addition to a sang base or can be used as is.

It was in a grove of Shorea robusta trees that Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Lord Buddha Shakyamuni and in some stories it is said that Lord Buddha Shakyamuni entered Mahaparinirvana between two sal trees. The late botanist author, Christian Rätsch, Ph.D., cited sal as a component of incense used by shamans in Nepal.
