Shorea robusta resin, also known as sal resin, salai guggal or Indian dammar, is a natural resin obtained from the tree species Shorea robusta, commonly known as the sal tree. This resin and wood have been used for a myriad of various purposes for centuries. Sal resin is a traditional addition to a sang base or can be used as is.
It was in a grove of Shorea robusta trees that Queen Maya Devi gave birth to Lord Buddha Shakyamuni and in some stories it is said that Lord Buddha Shakyamuni entered Mahaparinirvana between two sal trees. The late botanist author, Christian Rätsch, Ph.D., cited sal as a component of incense used by shamans in Nepal.

I received my order of resins today and I am soooo SO thrilled. They arrived swiftly in their little tins. The seller reached out to thank me for the order (so nice! A lot of sellers do not, but I find the ones who sell things for magickal and spiritual purposes always do. This tells me that they believe in what they are doing with their whole soul. And that they are invested in the spirit world. Yay! This is where I like to spend my money). The resin is gorgeous. I burned one (the styrax) as soon as I got it, and it was GORGEOUS. I smelled the rest of them, and they were all exotic and lovely and I cannot wait to burn them (just noticed the directions on some that may not be best burned with charcoal...) as directed. I like to understand the properties of the resins I burn, so I will take my time with them. I love this shop!
