Khampa grass (also spelled Kanba or Ganden grass) is a sacred high-altitude Artemisia (wormwood) plant from Tibet, that’s tied to Tibetan Buddhist rituals, purification practices, and traditional incense formulation.

According to Tibetan folklore, the founder of the Gelug school, Je Tsongkhapa, cut his hair and scattered it around Ganden Monastery, where it miraculously grew into this blessed purifying herb. It naturally thrives in pure, high-mountain environments around 3,800 meters above sea level in regions of Tibet and the Himalayas. Dried Khampa grass is widely burned as an aromatic herbal incense or smudge to clear negative energy, purify spaces, and ward off evil.
