This 10 flag set of 6 inch by 7.5 inch prayer flags in 5 colors is imprinted with the 4 Harmonious Friends. The Four Harmonious animals are figures in Buddhist mythology and the Jataka tales. As the story goes, the bird finds a seed and plants it, the rabbit waters it, and the monkey fertilizes it. Once the seed sprouts and begins to grow, the elephant protects it.

After some time, the small plant grows into a big, beautiful tree full of healthy fruit. By working together and using their individual talents, the four friends are able to reach and enjoy the fruit. The image of a bird, rabbit, and monkey standing on each other’s shoulders on the back of a patient elephant portrays social and environmental harmony.

This story perfectly demonstrates harmony, interdependence, co-operation and friendship between four animals who become unlikely close friends. The elephant represents our body, the monkey represents the restless mind, the rabbit represents emotions, and the bird is the soul. Hanging this design in your home is believed to bring harmony, friendship, peace, and cooperation from all. The Tibetan text on each flag translates to: "May harmony, love, peace and friendship prevail."

Prayer flags are traditionally hung as expressions of prayer, aspiration and bodhicitta and are associated in Tibetan Buddhist traditions with blessing and purification.

I really love the message/prayer written in Tibetan about freeing all sentient beings from suffering. I wished there was an English translation too.

Love them!

These are really beautiful, and exactly as pictured. They came wrapped really nicely in eco friendly materials and shipping was lighting fast. They also had no chemical odor from the print and only smelled faintly of natural incense on arrival, which is lovely.
